Do you want a FAG or is a Superking more your thing?

I love acronyms, especially if they make a word, for example Dr Whooo. Alternatively, I like Cryptic titles like Utah, even better is both combined for example FAG.

FAG stands for Flop And Go, on scale of complexity I would say in its basic (one might say plain / ready salted) form it is only one step up from standard hold’em.

BASIC RULES FOR FAG

Deal four cards face down to each player. Standard round of betting. 3 card flop. Then every player throws away any cards they are not going to use. (see below for details.) Standard (1 card) turn and River (1 card).

How the Throw away works

After the flop every player throws away all the cards they will not be using. Whatever cards they have left they MUST use to make their hand.

The full options are:

      i.        If they throw away 1 card, they MUST play the 3 left in their hand plus 2 from the table.

    ii.        If they throw away 2 they MUST play the 2 left in their hand plus 3 from the table.

   iii.        If they throw away 3 they MUST play the 1 left in their hand plus 4 from the table.

   iv.        Now of course they can throw NONE away and only play 1 from the table.

    v.        An extreme option is to throw all their cards away and just play the board. Ie use the five cards that are face up on the table.

This is a fun and frustrating game, well worth a try.

Having mastered this there is the option of Superking

BASIC RULES FOR SUPERKING

A super king is a large cigarette. So in this game each player is dealt 5 cards face down rather than 4. The same rules apply as above. i.e. after the flop any cards the player is NOT using are discarded. The only difference being up to 5 cards can be discarded.

Now if you have been reading these blogs in order the visionary amongst you will know what is coming next. You will realise it is possible to have a fag with your GP. What “up West” would be called Dr Whooo has a FAG. (I won’t bore you with the rules, I’m sure you know them by now.) Going to UTAH with a fag is less than ideal as everyone has different numbers of cards. However, it is possible for Matty to have a FAG.

Further enhancement is also possible (for example with the help of Ted Rodgers), but these will be listed after further “Base games” have been explained.

Are there poker thoroughbred games?

A ll modern Thoroughbreds race hoses trace back to three stallions imported into England from the Middle East in the late 17th and early 18th centuries: the Byerley Turk (1680s), the Darley Arabian (1704), and the Godolphin Arabian (1729).   As we have discussed, to make a good and playable new dealers choice game, it needs a known base game with probably just one change.   Now the majority of poker games are based on 3 styles of games:   Hold'em esq (community card games) . Dealt "hole" cards to players with community cards in the centre. Texas hold'em being the most obvious example. These games have proved very good raw material in which to take into the shed and modify.   Another "style" of poker is "Draw" poker . Blood River

A very simple addition / alteration to any game with community cards. To be fair this isn't a Shed or even West End invention. Basic rules are play (say Omaha) as usual. Standard flop (3 cards), standard turn (1 card), standard river with round of betting. BUT if the river card is red (heart ♥️or diamond♦️) there is another river card with a round of betting. IF this card is red, there is a 3rd river card and betting. This continues until a black (♠️♣️ ) card is dealt, at which point there is a last round of betting. Now as always men with sheds have developed this further. For example Utah and Dr Whooo can both easily have a blood river, as can Matty and Matty turbo. You get the gist I'm sure. I will leave it at that as it is Christmas and I don't want to overtax you with "bus crash", "LGBT", "menopause" etc.
